Comparison

CarePilot vs. Abridge, side by side.

A comparison for athenahealth practices. Abridge is a genuinely strong enterprise platform built around Epic. This page says exactly where it leads, and where an athena-first practice is better served.

The honest verdict

Abridge is the better choice for a large enterprise health system or academic medical center standardizing ambient AI on Epic at scale, with revenue-cycle depth and the vendor stability that an organization-wide rollout demands. CarePilot is the athenahealth clinical-action platform for independent and ambulatory practices that want depth without an enterprise IT project: it writes notes, ICD-10 and E&M codes, and orders into athenaOne's own discrete fields, triages the inbox, and goes live in 1 to 2 business days with published packaging and a 30-day trial.

Where Abridge is strong.

Credit where due

The enterprise Epic standard

Abridge was Epic's first ambient Pal and is deployed at 300+ health systems and 50,000+ clinicians. For a large Epic enterprise standardizing one ambient vendor across thousands of providers, that depth and track record are real and worth crediting.

Revenue-cycle and CDI depth

Abridge surfaces ICD-10 and HCC codes in real time, calculates E&M, and runs concurrent CDI and risk adjustment across inpatient and outpatient. For a system whose priority is documentation integrity at enterprise scale, that is a genuine strength.

Linked Evidence and vendor stability

Linked Evidence traces each line of the note back to the audio that produced it, and Abridge is Best in KLAS for ambient AI in 2025 and 2026 with $800M+ in funding. For audit-heavy academic centers, that traceability and staying power matter.

Where CarePilot pulls away.

For athenahealth practices

Built for athenaOne, not retrofitted

Abridge's deepest workflow lives inside Epic, with athenahealth as one of several supported EHRs. CarePilot is built end to end for athenaOne and writes notes, codes, and orders into athena's own discrete fields, the problem list, orders queue, and charges.

Live in days, not a months-long project

Abridge is a sales-led, IT-deployed rollout measured in weeks to months. CarePilot goes live on athenaOne in 1 to 2 business days with no IT project, published packaging, and a 30-day trial a practice can start on its own.

Orders and inbox, handled end to end

Abridge centers on documentation and coding. CarePilot drafts orders and prescriptions into athenaOne's queues and runs a dedicated inbox product that triages results, refills, and messages, each ending at the clinician's sign-off.

Sized for the independent practice

Abridge's pricing and buying motion are calibrated for enterprise procurement. CarePilot is priced and packaged for solo to mid-size athenahealth practices that want the full clinical-action workflow without enterprise overhead.

The short version.

Abridge sells enterprise scale. A documentation and revenue-cycle platform built around Epic, deployed system-wide through IT, and proven across hundreds of large health systems. If you are a multi-specialty enterprise standardizing ambient AI on Epic, that depth is real, and this page won't pretend otherwise.

CarePilot sells depth for one EHR without the enterprise project. The note is step one of a loop that also places the codes, drafts the orders, and works the inbox, all inside athenaOne's own fields, live in 1 to 2 business days, and priced for the practice rather than the procurement department. If your practice isn't on athenahealth, CarePilot isn't your product.

For the athenaOne practice that wants the full workflow without a months-long rollout, run the 30-day trial next to Abridge and anything else you're evaluating. The chart will tell you.

★★★★★

As did many of the other reviewers, I tried quite a few other AI scribes - Suki, Sunoh, Freed, Heidi, Nabla among them. I found that CarePilot offered the absolute best combination of Athena integration with relevant, professional-sounding output, customizability, and ease of use of all. Plus, their customer support and technical support is outstanding. Some of the scribes (Suki, Nabla) offered comparable speech recognition and output, some were customizable, some were deeply integrated, most offered 24/7/365 support (Sunoh didn't) but only CarePilot was successful in offering everything in one package. Very happy with the product.

★★★★★

I recently implemented CarePilot at my four provider primary care office and what a difference it has made! My time spent on documentation has been reduced by 75% and my note quality has increase significantly as CarePilot picks up additional details that I may not take the time to document on my own due to time constraints. The interface is very easy to use and setup took me about 20 minutes before I was able to start using it. Literally I set it up over lunch one day! Forget a 2-3 week prolonged, agonizing implementation process like I have experienced with other 3rd party vendors. Carepilot's customer service has been stellar. Their team responds quickly (within 2-3 minutes typically) when any issues are raised.

FAQ

The switch questions.

Is CarePilot better than Abridge?

For independent athenahealth practices, CarePilot is the better fit: it writes notes, codes, and orders into athenaOne's discrete fields, triages the inbox, and goes live in 1 to 2 days with no IT project. For a large enterprise health system standardizing on Epic, Abridge is the stronger choice.

What is the difference between CarePilot and Abridge?

Abridge is an enterprise ambient AI platform built around Epic and sold to large health systems through IT. CarePilot is an athenahealth-native clinical-action platform for ambulatory practices that writes notes, ICD-10 and E&M codes, and orders into athenaOne's own fields and adds inbox triage.

Is CarePilot cheaper than Abridge?

Abridge does not publish pricing and sells annual enterprise contracts that third-party reviews estimate at roughly $2,500 to $7,200+ per clinician per year. CarePilot publishes packaging covering notes, coding, orders, and the inbox as one platform, priced for independent practices rather than enterprise procurement.

Can CarePilot replace Abridge?

For athenahealth practices, yes. CarePilot captures the ambient note Abridge produces and completes the coding, orders, and inbox work inside athenaOne, without an enterprise rollout. Large Epic health systems that need system-wide CDI and revenue-cycle depth are a better match for Abridge.

Who should use Abridge instead of CarePilot?

Large enterprise health systems and academic medical centers running Epic at scale, with IT resources for deployment and a need for enterprise CDI, risk adjustment, and audit-grade traceability, are a better fit for Abridge. CarePilot is built specifically for athenahealth ambulatory practices.

Does Abridge work with athenahealth?

Abridge supports athenahealth among several EHRs, but its deepest workflow is built inside Epic, where it was Epic's first ambient Pal. CarePilot is built end to end for athenaOne, writing to its discrete fields, problem list, orders queue, and charges as a native integration.

Does Abridge do order entry and inbox triage?

Abridge centers on ambient documentation and revenue-cycle coding, with orders surfaced for clinician review and patient summaries after the visit. It has no standalone inbox triage product. CarePilot drafts orders and prescriptions into athenaOne's queues and runs a dedicated results, refill, and message inbox.
